Executive Director Update

Welcome everyone to the fortnightly update.

Please allow me to introduce myself to you all as the Interim Executive Director of the ALRTA.

My name is Anthony Boyle and many members and stakeholders will possibly already know me. I have a long industry background, having owned and operated my family’s livestock transport business for almost 30 years. Recently I have passed the batten and sold the business to Joel Haberfield who continues to operate the company using our family name with our blessing.

I have had a long history with the industry associations both at state and national level. I was President of Victoria in 2010-2012.Recently I have worked with the LRTAV to bring the HPLV network to the whole industry. I plan to bring this industry knowledge and passion to the role of Executive Director and look forward to supporting the industry that has supported my family for many years.

I would like to thank Rachel Smith for all her hard work over the last 2 years and wish her well in the future. Her work in structure for the association and lobbing for the Bruce Highway upgrade funding will be a lasting legacy.

Last week we witnessed an activism attack on one member in the NSW Riverina region. The response from both within the industry and external stakeholders has been one of anger and condemnation. This is certainly a concerning issue and one that unfortunately reflects the status of society in general now. Both ALRTA President Gerard Johnson and LBRCA President Wade Lewis have responded to the multitude of media outlets highlighting the incident. The fallout from this is for us all to be vigilant, but not be vigilantes. Please be aware of suspicious behaviour and report it to authorities straight away. Let us hope this and another couple of incidents recently get the attention from authorities it deserves, and we see the culprits held accountable.

As our national conference is approaching very fast, I would like to encourage you all to get on board and register for the event, and I look forward to meeting as many of you as possible and hearing your thoughts on how we can work together supporting the families of rural trucking across the country.

Until next time, stay safe.

Anthony.
