Braking Habits Revealed

ALTRA_webinar_zoom

Rollover crashes remain one of the most serious safety risks in livestock and rural transport — endangering lives, animals, and other road users.

In response, ALRTA invites members to attend the important webinar mentioned above, exploring braking safety and Smart Tech solutions.

This webinar will share insights from ALRTA’s Braking Habits Project, developed to:

  • Understand real-world experiences of operators using smart braking technology

  • Highlight the risks and challenges in current braking systems

  • Identify practical strategies to reduce single-vehicle rollovers

Who Should Attend? This session is ideal for:

  • Operations Managers

  • Workshop staff

  • Fleet and logistics teams

  • Anyone invested in braking performance, road safety, and smart tech

We’ll be lifting the lid on what’s working, what isn’t — and how we can get our people home safe by driving smarter and braking better. Don’t miss this opportunity to be part of a crucial safety conversation in our industry.

Executive Director Update

Mental Health Week

This week is Men’s Health Week, making it a fitting time to announce a valuable new partnership for ALRTA with Healthy Heads in Trucks & Sheds (HHTS) – an initiative focused on improving mental health and wellbeing for people working across the rural transport and logistics industries.

Mental health is not just a personal matter — it’s a legal responsibility under the Work Health and Safety Act 2011. Employers — or Persons Conducting a Business — have a duty to protect their workers from both physical and psychosocial hazards in the workplace.

What does that mean for Employers?

Under the WHS Act and supporting regulations:

  • Employers must ensure the health and safety of workers, including their psychological health

  • This includes managing risks such as high job demands, low job control, isolated or remote work, poor support, bullying, and more.

  • These risks must be identified, assessed, controlled, and regularly reviewed as part of standard safety obligations.

Psychosocial hazards can be subtle, but they are serious — and they are now regulated in the same way as physical risks.

Support for ALRTA Members: Download the Healthy Heads App

To help members meet their duty of care and support workplace wellbeing, ALRTA encourages all drivers, managers, and business owners to download the Healthy Heads App – a free, easy-to-use tool that includes:

  • Confidential crisis support and access to free counselling

  • A 16-question wellbeing check-in to monitor mental health

  • Stretching and resistance band exercises for life on the road

  • Discounted healthy meals at participating BP truck stops

  • Sleep support and breathing exercises

  • A hub of tools aligned with WHS psychosocial safety requirements

📲 Download the Healthy Heads App Promotional Kit — including social tiles, posters, and shareable workplace resources at healthyheads.org.au

What ALRTA members can do this week:

  • Start a conversation about mental health with your team

  • Review your WHS practices with a psychosocial lens

  • Share and promote the Healthy Heads App across your team

Let’s work together to make mental health and wellbeing a permanent part of how we do business — not just this week, but every week.

Finally, our National Council met this week to discuss a wide range of issues affecting our industry. I’ll share an update on the outcomes next week.

Until then — stay safe.

Anthony
Together, we are stronger.
